Arte Sano Festival, San Pedro Alcántara
by Fiona Flores Watson
Arte Sano Festival was the biggest free alternative festival on the Costa del Sol, and took place on the last weekend in July on San Pedro Alcántara seafront from about 2004 to 2019. It was cancelled in 2020 for Covid and never restarted.
After 15 years, Arte Sano had established itself as a showcase for contemporary natural health, artistic expression, movement, dance and personal development. It also featured live music, activities, workshops, classes, a wide variety of healthy and organic food stalls, plus an exciting kids' area.
There were the stalls and numerous activities:

Clothes: general and for yoga (and accessories)
Other: crystals, musical instruments, natural cosmetics, essential oils, handicrafts, jewellery, beeswax candles, artworks, tarot reading
Activities and workshops: massage, music therapy, yoga, acroyoga, meditation, mindfulness.
Live on stage: World music, traditional and modern dancing from Flamenco to world ethnic. (Mornings and Evenings)
Children's Zone: Acting and other fun education activities.
Conference Zone: Presentations and talks on alternative issues.
Salsa Zone: Dance Classes and exhibitions.
Yoga Zone: Dance Classes and exhibitions.
Concerts: On main stage in the evening, there were generally three bands at 8.30, 20.30, 22.30 hrs. As befitting an alternative festive bands tended to feature roots reggae, or drums, or rock fusion flamenco, or lounge ethnic chill out, or world music.
