Cáñar

History
At the beginning of the Muslim occupation, Cáñar was known as Gebel. Following the administrative division of La Alpujarra, it was incorporated into the Taha de Órgiva. Following the conquest of Granada and its subsequent fall into Christian hands, the population gradually became subject to intolerable pressure. This culminated in an insurrection led by Abén Humeya.
