Museo Pedro Antonio de Alarcón

Museo Pedro Antonio de Alarcón

The Pedro Antonio de Alarcón Museum of Arts and Customs of Capileira is housed in an old town hall building that is also an interesting example of popular Alpujarra architecture in Granada. It is spread over two floors, each divided into two naves. Inside, there is a large display of tools and utensils that have been used in this region throughout the ages. The museum was inaugurated in September 1972 to mark the centenary of the journey made by the renowned author Pedro Antonio de Alarcón through the Alpujarra, which he documented in his work La Alpujarra. In this text, he describes the territory, its people, and their customs at the end of the nineteenth century. The museum formerly operated as a House of Culture and Residence for Artists, and began its journey as a permanent exhibition of popular arts and customs in 1979. It is located on the A-4129.
