Castillo de Alquife

The Alquife Castle has a pentagonal layout, with its entire perimeter traceable within the walled enclosure. Seven towers and the remains of rammed earth walls on a masonry base are preserved on all five sides. Of these, only two of the masonry towers still have their original interior filling of low-lime concrete. Inside, to the northeast, is the rectangular cistern, which has dimensions of 5.85 x 3.20 metres and a depth of 2.52 metres . It has concrete walls and was covered with a masonry vault, traces of which are still visible. In the centre of the castle and at the highest point of the enclosure are the remains of walls flush with the ground made of faced masonry forming a residential space. These could belong to the interior layout of the fortress or to an interior turret serving as a keep. The castle was declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the legal classification of Monument in 1985. It is located on Calle Cerro.
