Iglesia Parroquial de Santa María de la Concepción

Iglesia Parroquial de Santa María de la Concepción

According to the parish priest, Miguel de Vitoria’s report, it was the courage of the Christians in the castle on which the Palacio del Marqués was built that prevented the Moors from burning the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa María de la Concepción (Parish Church of Holy Mary of the Conception). The original church was constructed in 1505, but by 1620 its condition was so poor that services were conducted in a private house. By 1623, it had collapsed completely. The current church was built between 1621 and 1628. It has a rectangular floor plan, a coffered ceiling with Renaissance braces and footings, a high choir at the front and a rectangular tower.
