Gójar

Gójar is a village south of Granada city on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada. It offers visitors natural spaces, which, together with the its buildings make it a destination for lovers of nature to explore the culture.
The good weather that tends to bless this village was the reason why small farmhouses were built here in the past, two of which are still preserved today: La Casa del Arco and La Casa Grande. The first is located in the area known as Haza de la Peña, where there is a tunnel, now closed, that in the past could have been an underground passageway to a medieval castle. The Casa Grande dates from the 16th century and is of a stately style, its interior containing objects of great value.
Things to See
A cultural visit to the town's most outstanding buildings is completed by the hermitage of Las Tres Cruces, which was located on the outskirts of the town when it was built, but with the passage of time and the growth of Gójar it has been incorporated into the town centre. It is also worth visiting the church of the Santísima Virgen de la Paz, from the 16th century, with an altarpiece from 1850, which is in very good condition.
In addition to this visit to the town centre, Gójar has a rich natural heritage. Areas such as La Boca de la Pescá, El Collado del Fraile, La Fuente del Artillero, Los Molinos de Ampuero, El Cerro del Bufón and El Molino del Boquete are ideal for hiking.

As far as handicrafts are concerned, woodcarving and embroidery here are outstanding.
Gastronomy
In terms of gastronomy, it is impossible not to try the town's most typical dish, roast lamb. Olive oil and almonds are also very important.
Festivals
In its calendar of festivities, the Spring Festival, held in April, is well worth a visit.
Gójar is only 10 kilometres from the capital, Granada. To get there, take the A-44 towards Ogíjares, and once you have passed this municipality on the GR-SE-11, you will find your destination.
