Casa Zayas (Town Hall) in Nigüelas
It is a powerful building centred around a courtyard containing a marble fountain, surrounded by columns and with an orchard garden at the back. Conceived as a recreational estate, the building's ornamental gardens, orchard and architecture are integrated into a walled enclosure that prevents outside views. The building has undergone numerous reforms. The last heiress of the Zayas family, María Antonia Zayas-Fernández de Córdoba y Ossorio Calvache, Delgado y Contreras de la Vega, Zea y Martín de Medina y Aranda, bequeathed her assets to the Zayas Foundation, which bears her name. In 1992, the town hall expropriated the building and restored it to house the town hall headquarters. In 2014, adjoining land was acquired to create a new garden and auditorium at the entrance to the town. In addition to preserving its structure, Casa Zayas has been furnished with pieces from the Seville Universal Exhibition and some of the opulent furnishings of the former Bib-Rambla Palace. It is open to the public during office hours on working days. The Serafín Hervás gardens and auditorium are also open free of charge at weekends. They are located on Calle Angustias.
