Cruces

Cruces

Since ancient times, seventeen crosses have been placed along the streets of Padul to symbolise the religious faith of its inhabitants. They generally correspond to the Holy Way of the Cross (also called the Stations of the Cross), a Catholic devotion commemorating the passion and death of Jesus Christ through 14 key moments, from his condemnation to his burial. A specific procession takes place on Holy Thursdays. Many of these crosses feature elegant carvings, although the authors and dates are unknown. They have been restored as important elements of the local heritage.
