Iglesia Santa María la Mayor
Dating to the sixteenth century, the church has undergone several modifications and restorations. The main nave's configuration corresponds to the original design, with the apse and two side naves being added later. The main altar is decorated in the Baroque style and the organ presiding over the choir adds beauty and character to the church. Both the altarpiece and the choir date from the seventeenth century and were funded by the local community. The Plateresque-style altarpiece of San Francisco deserves special attention and was designed by Pedro Machuca, the architect of the Palace of Carlos V, which is located next to the Palaces of the Alhambra. Outside, the three-part tower can be seen, which was formerly the minaret of the mosque. The third part was added later to serve as a bell tower, and a clock was placed there in the twentieth century. In the square at the entrance to the church, we can find the Burbujones cross, one of the crosses that guide us through the town. It is located on Calle Iglesia.
