Pueblos Blancos Music Festival in Montejaque
Montejaque - the heart of Pueblos Blancos Music Festival, where the artists call home for the weekend and where the locals spill into the town square to feel the music. It's the place to be on Sunday evening, the final night of the fiesta. The plaza comes to life as the sun sets over the white hills of Montejaque. The terraces fill, and the bars pack with patrons. It feels as though the entire village had woken up and turned out to the plaza. If there is a night to see Montejaque’s shows, it is on the closing Sunday.
There’s an enchanting feeling in the air as the final night of the festival begins. Pieter, frontman of the Belgian band Zinger, talks about the “Pueblos Blancos’ magic” and how it keeps him coming back to perform there every year. You can feel it in the air.
Josao and Enrique Heredia y Las Negris performed exclusively for the concluding night, only adding to the magic of the evening. Some of the acts perform again, but the most spellbinding thing about the final night is the artists jamming together. It goes on until the early hours of the morning, with energy remaining high throughout.
On the final evening of the Pueblos Blancos Music Festival, the night ends with a true fiesta. Locals and visitors alike take to the square to soak up the magic. All of the acts from the weekend join together on stage for a final jam as a family, celebrating the last four days of music. You can feel the freeing nomadic spirit of the performers come to life as they play together for the whole town. Lila Poucet, who performs saxophone alongside Joe King Carrasco, said, “Joe asked me to come [and perform with him] three days before the festival, and here I am”. The bohemian performers play their tunes with one common motivator: their love of music. From all corners of the globe, these people come together to one small town in the south of Spain to celebrate through melody.
