Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias - Valdepeñas de Jaén

This chapel was founded in 1721 by José Antonio de Aguilera y Arceo, an interesting character in the history of Valdepeñas de Jaén; nobleman and holder of the Mayorazgo de los Arceo-Gamboa. After the Civil War, in 1942, it was restored, including the additional of a new sculpture which presides over the chapel.

 

Location

Located in the Parrizoso area, on the bank of the Quiebrajano Reservoir.

Centro de Interpretación de Valdepeñas de Jaén - Valdepeñas de Jaén

The Regional Network of Oil Mills of Sierra Sur is made up of nine Interpretation Centres located in oil factories in this region of Jaén. Each centre focuses on a different element of the production of olive oil, including olive growing methods, oil production processes and classification systems, analysis of the olive oil market and the history of the trees themselves. The one in Valdepeñas de Jaén is dedicated to the history of the olive tree and olive oil. Tel: 953 31 00 70.

Zip line and Hanging Bridge at Frailes

This thrilling experience begins with zooming over an 80m drop on a 130m zip line across the Velillos River. It is the only urban zip line in the world that starts from a Town Hall. The experience continues across the 150m Colgante Bridge, where you can enjoy wonderful views as you reach the starting point. Visitors can continue the adventure by climbing and abseiling down a climbing wall.

Iglesia de Santa Lucía - Frailes

In 1550, Pedro de Valencia built a small chapel at his own expense, on a site that he acquired from Bartolomé Fernández de Montemolín, and paid for the image of Santa Lucía.

Casa del Deán Mudarra - Frailes

The house of Ezequiel Mudarra was built at the end of the 1920s by master builder Domingo Sánchez Velasco, known as ‘Dominguito’.

Casa de José Escribano - Frailes

This mansion from the same period is located a few meters from Casa del Deán Mudarra, but is the work of other master builder Manuel López Ramírez, known by the nickname ‘Manuel de la Morena’.

San Pedro is a small chapel in the form of a room that Antonio Pareja, better known as Tío Pelos, gave for the followers of the Patron of the town.

Lavadero del Nacimiento - Castillo de Locubín

The washhouse at the source of the Río San Juan has a rectangular floor plan. The building is of great architectural value, but also presents ethnographical points of interest because of the activity which took place there.

Castillo de la Villeta - Castillo de Locubín

The castle has a circular plan, preserving part of the northwest wall. However, its impressive cylindrical tower was demolished by strong winds at the end of the sixteenth century. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985.

Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol - Castillo de Locubín

The church was built to replace an old medieval temple, somewhere between the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, coinciding with a significant population growth at the time and taking into account the artistic trends of that time.

Casa Museo Antiguo Hospital - Castillo de Locubín

The Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, curated by Consuelo Castillo González and José Antonio Expósito Torres, occupies a beautiful and spacious eighteenth-century building, patiently refurbished by its creator.

Museo Pablo Rueda - Castillo de Locubin
