Medium Distance (MD) regional trains offer a network of routes between major cities and smaller provincial towns in Andalucia. The medium-distance services go under various names, the main services between cities being Intercity (IC), TER and the faster AVANT (on the standard guage AVE tracks). They may also be called Regional Express or Rapido (not entirely accurately).

Intenational train services

International trains from France terminate at either Barcelona or Madrid. The overnight sleeper trains from France were discontinued in December 2013 and replaced by high speed day trains. From there you can also travel on Renfe trains between some of the main provincial capitals on the and medium-distance trains in Andalucia, and to some of the smaller villages as well.

Malaga Airport Train Station

The RENFE Train Station at Málaga Airport is on-site to take passengers to and from the airport with trains leaving every 20 minutes for Málaga City or Fuengirola in the out of town direction.  The Fuengirola train stops at Torremolinos and Benalmádena as well..

Seville Metro

This finally opened in spring 2008, and is used by an estimated 20 million passengers a year. It is small-scale, using just three passenger coaches, with 22 stations. But it's clean, efficient and regular and has proved a success. It is especially useful, and busy, during Semana Santa and Feria when parking near these events is both scarce and pricey.

Seville urban Bus & Tram

Seville has an extensive bus network, covering all barrios around the city. Most buses leave either from Puerta de Jerez (south of the centre) or from Plaza Ponce de Leon (east). The circular buses, C3 and C4, follow the ring road around the old city centre. One small bus takes a circular route inside the centre, the C5.

Malaga City Train Station

Malaga María Zambrano train Station opened in 2007 as a Vialia sponsored station on the site of the original 1863 station. It is situated on Explanada de la Estación in the South West of the City Centre. It is next door to the Bus station, approximately 2 km from the Malaga port and 9 km from Malaga Airport.

Granada Train Station is situated at the convergence of Calle de Halcon and Calle Doctor Jaime Garcia Royo. Trains are an easy way to travel to and from the city of Granada, it is also possible to take trains from Granada (RENFE) Train Station to towns in Granada province.

Railway Services from Alora

Alora is the terminus of the Cercanías Renfe C-2 line with a frequent stopping service to Malaga Centro – Alameda.

Estación de Jabalquinto

The station was opened on September 15, 1866 in line with the newly commissioned Vilches-Córdoba railway line that was intended to link Manzanares with Córdoba. MZA’s concession of the line was of great importance, since it allowed the station’s expansion to the south after having managed to link Madrid with Zaragoza and Alicante.

Ronda to Algeciras - Mr Henderson's Railway

In the 1890's, a railway was built by the Algeciras (Gibraltar) Railway Company Ltd between Algeciras and Ronda and Bobadilla where it connected with the existing Cordoba to Malaga line to give access to Madrid and Europe. Nowadays the train journey from Algeciras or San Roque makes a lovely day trip through stunning scenery and historic sites, with gastronomic surprises en route. As well as the novelty of spotting British Victorian railway memorabilia the route passes the beautiful Genal valley, in a place where there is no road access.

San Roque - Trains

This railway station a few km west from the hill village of San Roque and the town of La Linea de la Concepcion (for Gibraltar). It is part of the Mr Henderson's Railway that joins Algeciras and Ronda with the rail network at Bobadilla for main lines to Granada, Malaga, Cordoba and Madrid.
