Inland Blue Flag Beaches in Andalucia 2025
In 2026 in Andalucia there were two inland beaches awarded with Blue Flags. La Breña Beach, located in Almodovar del Río in Córdoba province, revalidated it's blue flag award in 2026 for the fourth consecutive year. El Encinarejo beach in Andujar in Jaen province revalidated its 2025 award. You can access the El Encinarejo beach after crossing an iron bridge over the Jándula River on bridge built in the 1920s.
Playa Ardales, located on the shores of the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir. (Embalse del Conde del Guadalhorce) near the famous Caminito del Rey made history as the first inland beach in Andalucia to receive the Blue Flag distinction. It maintained this status for two years 2022 and 2023 but was not re-awarded in the 2024.
As the Blue flag awards have grown over the years the requirements have also grown. Each town hall submits an application in the autumn of the previous year and commits to not just clean bathing water but showers, life-guards, signage and environmental awareness programs. It has become necessary for town halls to carefully select the potential Blue Flag beaches for the necessary infrastructure investment in preparation for the Blue Flag application. The successful applications are announced each May, unsuccessful applications are not published.
