Necropolis Cerillo de las Sombras

Cerillo de las Sombras is an unusual Iron Age Necropolis (burial site) in Frigiliana, a pretty village six kilometres outside Nerja. It is one of just three Iron Age sites in Europe, dating from the 9th century BC. You cannot visit the site itself, as it is carefully protected, but to learn more about the necropolis.

Barco de Chanquete

El Barco de Chanquette (Chanquete´s boat), officially named La Dorada, is a full scale replica of a famous fishing boat, featured in the 1981 Spanish television series Verano Azul; set on the coast of Nerja and directed by well known film director Antonio Mercero.

Acueducto del Águila

Acueducto del Águila (Eagle Aqueduct), also known as Puente del Águila (Eagle Bridge), is regarded across the region as "an historic jewel of Spanish architecture". It was built in the 19th century and has been used continuously since - today the local community uses it to irrigate farmland.

Cuevas de Nerja

Las Cuevas de Nerja (the Caves of Nerja) are a series of naturally formed caves and caverns in the hills of Maro, 4km North-East of Nerja, some of which have taken up to two million years to form. The caves contain the widest naturally-formed column in the world, at 32m high and 13x7m at its base. Formed by the merging of a stalagmite and stalactite, it has held the Guinness World Record since 1989. The caves also famously host the annual Nerja International Festival of Music and Dance.

Club Internacional de Nerja

This social club with its own premises and library in calle San Juan 42 is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 21.00 onwards and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10.30 to 13.30. The International Club has active bridge and scrabble clubs, video exchange and art classes. New members of all nationalities are welcome.

Nerja - Five Fascinating Fact 4 - Party On

One of the biggest and most well-know all-night beach parties takes place on La Noche de San Juan (the eve of St John's Day). On the evening of 23 June, all the townsfolk of Nerja, and plenty of visitors too, head down to the shore, armed with tents, barbeques and copious liquid refreshment, to camp on the beach (normally prohibited) and grill sardines.
