Zoo Castellar NaturaParc

ZOO CASTELLAR NATURAPARC

This zoo park is located in Castellar de la Frontera, in the “Cerro del Moro” recreational area, just 1 km towards the east of the town on the road A-2100 from Castellar de la Frontera to Sotogrande.

It is inside the Natural Park of Los Alcornocales, one of the most beautiful ones in Andalucía.

The animal rescue center started in 1998 as a private initiative. Four years later, in 2002, it opened to the public. The initiative began to be custodian of helpless animals who deserve to live with the best possible care. In the zoo there is a veterinary clinic that it is essential to have the best technical and human resources for a complete diagnosis of their animals.

In the zoo, a team of professionals prepares conservation and breeding plans in captivity, thus increasing the biological knowledge of the zoo's animal and plant species. Throughout the years, it has been renewing and enriching its collection until reaching the current situation, with more than 500 animals of about 120 different species from the five continents, highlighting especially the Albino Giant Porcupine, unique specimen in the world.

There is a schedule for guided visits and special performances (exhibitions of birds and reptiles) that can serve to better appreciate the skills and customs of animals, while always respecting their dignity, avoiding abnormal situations or denigrating them.
