Erosion Control Products

Vetiver is mainly used for controlling erosion as it traps sediment, slows down the flow of water, and allows you to channel the water to where you want it to go. When placed in an inlet where springs or runoff water feeds another body of water it slows down the runoff while filtering the incoming water.

Colmenar

Colmenar is a lovely village nestled in the northern edge of the Málaga mountains (Montes de Málaga) and situated as a northern gateway to Axarquía from the area of Antequera. At 700m above sea level the village has a population of about 3,500.

Living in Gibraltar

Gibraltar might be small, but those wishing to live and work on the famous Rock will be pleased to hear that it is not a closed shop. Depending on your country of origin, however, you might need a residence permit.

Castillo, Velez Blanco

Declared a National Monument in 1931, the imposing castle dominates the town’s skyline. Its construction began in 1506 by order of Pedro Fajardo, named Marquis of Los Vélez by the Catholic Monarchs

Torrox Costa - Hotels

Torrox, like many other towns along the Costa Del Sol, is split into two parts - Torrox Costa (on the coast) and Torrox Pueblo (further inland). Torrox Costa is a popular holiday destination for tourists and is home to a number of expats. As expected, a large range of hotels and apartments can be found here due to its proximity to the beach and La Caleta pleasure port. It also boasts the 'best climate in Europe' and catches the sun all year round.

Atajate

Atajate is both a municipality and a tiny village in Málaga’s Ronda mountains (Serranía de Ronda). The village itself is part of the White Pueblo Route and is home to under 200 people, known as Atajateños. It’s known for both its beauty and natural surroundings.

State Schools

The Spanish state schools have undergone dramatic changed over the last decade and standards are fast approaching those in the rest of Europe. Furthermore, if a child wants to continue at a university elsewhere, such as the UK, there are no special examinations to take, the results may be convalidated directly without even translating the same before supplying the same to the respective university body.

Ermita de San Roque

This chapel is built on the site of a former hermitage which was destroyed in 1998 due to some urban expansion works carried out on the street. Located on Calle Carrichete.

Apartments to rent

Puerto de la Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol's marinas that is enjoyed by sailors and tourists alike. Located one hour's drive from the airport of Malaga and 45 minutes form Gibraltar airport. La Duquesa seems like a thousand miles away from the throng of the holiday resorts.

Museo el Padrillo

The art museum has been open since August 2004 and was donated to the town by José Antonio Jiménez Tovar.

Palacio de las Catequistas

Formerly the home of the Administrador del Marqués, the building dates back to the eighteenth century and was refurbished as a church at the end of the nineteenth century.

New Flamenco - Pata Negra

Formed by the Sevillano duo of brothers Raimundo and Rafael Amador Fernández, Pata Negra took their name (ostensibly) from the prime form of mountain-dried ham, Pata Negra (black hoof) and their direction from the blues, as displayed on their later recording, 'Blues de la Frontera'. The central duo split in the mid-1990s but continue on solo projects.

Recommended: Blues de la Frontera, Guitarras Callejeras, El Directo

Mijas Beaches

This is the longest of the Mijas Costa beaches at over 4,500 meters long and 25 meters wide. Since it is right at the foot of the large Sitio de Calahonda urbanization, it is a very popular beach, with ramp access, many beach bars and lots of activity, but it also has some quieter corners for those who prefer a bit of piece and quiet.

Casa de Colon

To be in the heart of the action: this small hotel is on a street connecting the cathedral and Plaza Nueva, and close to innumerable tapas bars and restaurants. It has pretty rooms with lots of character, friendly staff, and good prices. Those of independent mind who don't need all the bells and whistles of five (or even four)-star service, but who want an excellent location and interiors with style.
