Hotels in Marbella

As one of Spain's most exclusive holiday destinations, beloved of the titled, rich and famous, Marbella has a number of luxurious hotels. Many of these are right on the beach, but some are just inland, offering more privacy and spacious surroundings. The most exclusive and sought-after stretch is the so-called "Golden Mile", between Puerto Banus and Marbella.

Palacio de la Aduana

This grand building due east of the Cathedral houses the works which were formerly in the Museo de Málaga (originally housed in the Picasso Museum). The permanent collection includes some impressive paintings by Zurbarán and Murillo and there are frequent temporary exhibitions.

Walks

Sendero de los Acantilados is a linear route of around 6km along the coastal footpath that links Barbate to Caños de Meca, with wonderful views along the coast and out to sea. Don't go too the near the cliff edge, since there are sheer drops of up to 100m down to the sea.

Torre Nueva Watchtower - Mijas Costa

Torre Nueva de la Cala del Moral, also called Torre de Pentapeseta,  Torre Pesetas, Torre Vigía de Torrenueva,  Torre Penta Pesetos and Torre de la Peseta. It is located in an elevated point not far from the beach in the grounds of an housing estate on the headland west of La Cala de Mijas.

Mario Park Almeria

Mario Park is situated in Roquetas del Mar, near Salinas beach, on the southern coast of Almeria province. The aquatic park consists of seven rides (Turbuelnce, Kamikaces, Multipista, Black Hole, Zig-Zag, Río Bravo and Super Tornado). There are also swuimming pools, jacuzzis and a wave pool.

Alvin Karpis

However, not all of the literary figures were at first welcomed in the town: the local residents became somewhat alarmed at the arrival of an infamous American named Alvin Karpis, who set up home there during the 1970's. Alvin Francis Karpis was a Depression-Era gangster turned author.

Jardines del Guadalquivir

Built more as a traditional park, this is very close to the Jardin Americano, but you need to know exactly how to get there, it’s not signposted (which means it’s quiet and little-visited): leave through the gate at the lake end, turn left walk and along next to the cycle lane.

Complejo Endorreico de Espera Natural Reserve

Situated close to the Seville/Cadiz provincial border is the 438ha Complejo Endorreico de Espera Natural Reserve, with three lakes: Hondilla, Salada de Zorrilla and Dulce de Zorrilla. This is a significant site for waterfowl, since four out of the 15 aquatic bird species that are increasingly rare in Spain breed or overwinter here. These four are the red-knobbed coot and three types of duck: white-headed, marbled and ferrunginous.
