Museum of Spanish Contemporary Engravings

Museo Grabados, Marbella is s also known as Museum of Spanish Contemporary Engravings. This building was formerly the residential palace of the Mayor, Don Alonso de Bazán who donated it to the town to serve as a hospital for the poor. It is a fine example of a 16th century renaissance building.

Private Health Clinics

There are a large number of private health clinics in Andalucia. Most towns will have a number of specialist doctors practices or health clinics. The equivalent in the state system is called 'Ambulatorio' or 'Consultorio' even the smallest village will have a consultorio.  Hospitals that patients can stay overnight are found in the larger town and provincial capital cities.

Sinagoga del Agua

The Jewish synagogue was discovered in 2007 by the Crespo-López family. It is a private initiative for the recovery of a building which was camouflaged within the walls of several buildings, where different families led a normal life, without noticing the grandeur of what was hidden within the interior walls of their houses.

Antonio Ordoñez

Antonio Ordoñez was one of Spain's most famous bullfighters. Born in Ronda in 1932, he made his first public appearance as a bullfighter in 1948 and in 1951, aged 19, he appeared in the bullring in Madrid. In the glittering career which followed, Ordoñez came face to face with over 1000 bulls. He finally retired in 1968, having fought over 60 bullfights in that year alone.

Desierto de Tabernas Natural Area

Sandwiched between the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, Gador, Filabres and Alhamilla is one of the most dramatic landscapes in Spain, the desolate Desierto de Tabernas. The only semi-desert in Europe; there is a surreal, lunar quality about its wierdly eroded ravines, dry river beds and barren slopes apparently devoid of vegetation, bleached by the sun and occasionally singed with ochre hues.

Necrópolis Megalítica

La Niña de Los Peines

Pastora Maria Pavon Cruz was born on the 10th February 1890 in Calle Butrón in Seville and she died on the 26th November 1969 after a long illness. Pastora Pavon is probably the most important female voice in the history of the flamenco song and she gained her nick-name of Niña de los Peines after a style of tango she sang that contained the words “Comb your hair with my combs, they are the sweetest things”.

Santa Olalla del Cala, Huelva history

It's not known when the first settlers appeared in Santa Olalla del Cala. The strategic position of the village facilitated the transit of metals extracted from the mines at Almaden de la Plata, Rio Tinto, as well as El Papua and El The Tratejón in Zufre, so a settlement may have existed in the Bronze Age (third millennium BC). The mining trade provided the basis of the known Ruta de la Plata (Silver Route), which lead from Merida to Astorga.

Tomatito

José Fernandez Torre, or "Tomatito" (little tomato), as he is artistically known was born into a family of flamenco guitarists. His Grandfather was El Tomate Viejo (the old tomato), his uncle was "Niño Miguel" and his father was El Tomate (the tomato).

Dama Juana restaurant in Jaén

Dama Juana, which opened in March 2019 in Jaen, is named after the grandmother of chef-owner Juan Aceituno. Sadly she died just two weeks after the restaurant in Jaen’s barrio San Ildefonso opened.
