Aquopolis Cartaya

This “water city” (sister to the Aquopolis in Sevilla) in Huelva province has six rides, including a Torbellino, a huge bowl where you slide around the sides, and into the whirlpool at the bottom. For less hectic action, there’s a Jacuzzi, a relaxing pool and wave pool, plus little kids’ area.

Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra put the Hotel Pez Espada on the map after he was involved in a fracas while staying there during the filming of Von Ryan's Express. The incident involved a Spanish photographer and the Cuban b-movie actress called Cañibano Ondina.

Huelva City - Fascinating Fact 1

The British engineers and miners who worked in the 19th and 20th centuries wanted to make themselves a home-from-home. So they built English-style houses complete with front gardens, right in the middle of Huelva. The Victorian Barrio Obrero, also known as the Barrio Reina Victoria, which dates from 1916, is a microcosm of suburban England in Andalucia. Based on the concept of a garden city, it has avenues of mock-Tudor semis, with lawns, hedges and rose gardens.

Malaga City Beaches

Malaga City has much to offer a tourist, not only is it the cosmopolitan capital of the Costa del Sol it also has kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches. The beaches are all situated along the Promenade of Pablo Ruiz Picasso which is lined with bars and restaurants where you can sample Malagueño produce and culture at its best.

Marismas del Río y La Flecha del Rompido Natural Area

It is situated west of Huelva, around the minor resort and fishing village of El Rompido. The Piedras river has formed an estuary surrounded by marshlands. Where the river meets the Atlantic Ocean a long sandy spit has formed, called the Barra or Flecha del Rompido.

Trambahia - Cadiz Bay Tramway

The 'Tranvía Metropolitano de la Bahía de Cadiz' (Metropolitan Tramway of the Bay of Cadiz), also known as the 'Trambahía', was inaugurated on 26 October 2022. The opening has been a long time coming, since the construction of the line was completed in 2012.

Virgen del Carmen in Torremolinos

Torremolinos celebrates the fiestas of the Virgen del Carmen in the traditional fishermen's quarter of La Carihuela. The Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of sailors.

Lope de Vega Theatre

This neo-baroque theatre is named after the famous 16th century Spanish playwright, often called the Spanish Shakespeare, who wrote more than 1,500 plays. Like most of the buildings in this area of the city, it was designed for the 1929 Iberico-American Expo as the Pavilion of Seville, and was later used as a casino. It was converted into a theatre in 1980.

Albufera de Adra Natural Reserve

Ten kilometres east of the industrial port of Adra is this small wetland reserve of 217ha on the Mediterranean coast, a wildlife oasis in an area of intensive agriculture. It is comprised of intertidal marshes and a series of permanent coastal lagoons (albuferas) of varying depths and degrees of salinity, which have been created by a former river delta of the Río Adra.

Low Emission Zone in Andalucia

In December 2022, a new Spanish law came into force that requires towns and cities of a certain population to create low emission zones (Zonas de Bajas Emisiones, or ZBE) in their centres. This initiative is intended to help improve the air quality in towns and cities, and the health of their inhabitants.

La Saca de las Yeguas, Almonte

The "Saca de las Yeguas" is an ancient tradition dating back to 1504, where over 1,500 semi-wild mares and foals are herded from Doñana's marshes to Almonte, Spain. This unique spectacle, held annually on June 26th, draws thousands as "yegüerizos" (breeders) guide the "troops" of horses through a scenic, marshy path.
