El Repilado

El Repilado is one of the dependant villages of Jabugo located within the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, 4kms west of Jabugo. There are two theories for the origin of the name; the first argues that El Repilado is named after the first family that settled in these lands.

History

Jódar and its surroundings have been populated in some form since at least the third millennium BC; the site of Las Quebradas, dating from the Chalcolithic period, evidences prehistoric settlement, whilst Mycenaean remains attest to human presence during the Iberian era.

Estepona - Conference & Exhibition Hall

The modern Estepona Conference and Exhibition Hall is located to the east of the town on the main road entry. It comprises is a 3.000 square meter open-plan hall which can be subdivided for different events and conferences. A second pavilion with a surface of 500 m2 offers a completely equipped conference lounge with a capacity for 200 people.

Cantoria

Cantoria is the town where Don Juan de Austria established his main encampment and where his troops actively participated in the expulsion of the Moors during the sixteenth century. It has around 3,200 inhabitants. The origin of the name of Cantoria is unknown, however, it is likely connected to the Moors, who called the town Canturia. Other sources suggest that the name relates to neighboring Oria, a Castilian name.

La Palma del Condado

La Palma del Condado provides a traveller with many attractions both cultural and gastronomic during any season. The old part of town has been declared of cultural interest and the surrounding countryside is becoming ever more famous for their production of wine.

Via Verde Olula del Río

This is a tarmac greenway which runs for just over a kilometre and a half to the town of Olula del Río. The route is accessible on foot, by bike and in a wheelchair. Sierra de las Estancias and Sierra de Los Filabres are highlights in terms of beautiful landscapes which can be seen from this greenway.

History of Castro de Filabres

The history of Castro de Filabres dates to the Roman era, although there are some vestiges of prehistoric times, particularly from the Copper Age. Remains of polished stone instruments with axes, known as “Lightning Stones” , have also been found, made with a material called diorite. The foundation of the town is framed between legend and reality.

Alsodux

Alsodux, like many other villages in this part of Andalusia, is built around the site of an old farmhouse located strategically between the Nacimiento River and the entrance to Guadix. It has around 125 inhabitants. Historians have traditionally translated the village’s name as “sixth”, thought to come from the Arab word “al-sadis” or from “sodux” in the Andalusí dialect.

Cabezas Rubias

The name of this town refers to being surrounded by golden-coloured mountains which resemble blonde heads.

Escultura “Labriego”

Unveiled in 2007, this sculpture by César Molina honours the first settlers of El Chaparral, depicting a farmer ploughing and engraved with the names of 120 pioneers.
