About La Axarquia

It's hard to believe that the wild beauty of the La Axarquía is just half an hour from the coast of Málaga's eastern Costa del Sol. These villages are as interesting as the better-known white villages to the west and inland from the more glitzy western Costa del Sol including the gateway of Marbella. Nerja, to be fair, is the jewel in the crown of this eastern stretch Costa del Sol coastline. It has maintained a certain old-fashioned charm with its magnificent palm-lined Balcón de Europa, justly famed as one of the most beautiful promenades on the Coast.

La Axarquia

Until around two decades ago the Axarquía region of Andalucía was little known. Then, northern European expatriates discovered the pretty hilltop village of Cómpeta, started buying up some of the run-down 'fincas' and farmhouses in the area and putting it on the map.

Guadalhorce, Campanillas, Guadalmedina Valleys

Guadalhorce, Campanillas, Guadalmedina and Grande are the river valleys that converge on the coast at Malaga city. Together they form an interesting area, mainly agricultural supported by small towns such as Alhaurin and Coin. The fertile river plains inland from Malaga city support ligh industry and citrus fruit agriculture, whereas further inland and higher up the valleys one finds smaller villages such as Alhora, Almogia and Ardales. on of the main atraction located in this area is the Caminito del Rey footpath and the lakes at El Chorro.

The natural parks of La Axarquia include Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Almara, Montes de Malaga Natural Park. Another natural bueaty spot is Lake Viñuela.

Amphetamine Discharge

Amphetamine Discharge, the four-piece band from Sevilla, was an icon of the Sevilla alternative music movement in the 1990s. Aurora, Loco, Prima and Pituplay a mixture of punk-rock and hardcore. Their songs are powerful, imaginative and loud. Drums (Pitu) and two guitars (Loco and Prima) supportvocalist Aurora, whose voice is strong enough to dominate such a heavy sound.
