Femina

'Fémina' is the fourth Estepona mural by the Malaga artist Curro Leyton. This follows : ‘Quijote en el Siglo XXI’, 'The last Supper' and 'Leyton'. Femina measures 60 m2 and can be seen on one of the exterior walls of the Polideportivo Municipal Cibier la Lobilla. It was inaugurated in July 2020.

At 1,248 km in length, this huge highway from Cadiz to Barcelona was the longest road in Spain. It is colloquially known as the Spanish Route 66, and many have travelled the entire route and written blogs about their adventure.

Concrete mile posts

You may have noticed old concrete milestones by the side of Andalucian roads - local and national, not motorways. While most of these were replaced long ago by painted metal signs, a few still remain, reminders of a bygone age of road travel.

When flying back to the UK from Andalucia, whether on holiday or business, you may need to spend the night in a hotel due to a flight transfer, delay, a late night flight or purely due to tiredness! Many of the UK airports have hotels on site or located very close by.

Roadside Hotels (Motels)

These hotels are located close to a motorway or a major road, and are ideal for anyone undertaking a long car journey across Andalucia, perhaps to discover the lesser-known parts of the region. They offer a convenient place to stay without having to make a detour onto a smaller road to find a hotel after a long day’s driving, although the downside is that they are functional rather than beautiful and full of character.

Country House Hotels

The following hotels are all country houses in rural settings. It is similar to the concept of rural escapes but in this case the grand house hotel stands out often in its own extensive grounds. Enjoy the natural beauty of the Andalucian countryside, with its stunning scenery of mountains, forests, and plains.

Museo Casa de Muñecas

The Malaga Dolls' House Museum (Museo Casa de Muñecas) was the first of its kind in Spain. It opened in 2004 and closed in 2014 and was located in a restored 18th century Baroque building (Calle Alamos 32) next to the Plaza de la Merced.

Villas Turisticas

The ´Villas Turisticas´ hotels were built over thirty years ago and have gone through various changes in management ever since, from government ownership to private and mixed management. They are worth a special mention and their own category, as they are a different type of hotel altogether.

Malaga City - Fascinating Fact 3

In the 19th century, Malaga was popular with well-to-do Brits recovering from illness. Its mild climate made it ideal for those with a weak constitution, but many succumbed while living here. At first, infidels (non-Catholics) were buried upright in the sand at night, so their bodies would often reappear on the beach. Then in 1830 the British consul finally obtained a plot of land for an English cemetery, outside the city walls. Its more illustrious inhabitants include the writer Gerald Brenan and his wife, poet and novelist, Gamel Woolsey.

Barrio de Reina Victoria

The Barrio de Reina Victoria, otherwise known as the "Barrio Obrero" (Workers' District), is a testament to its name: an example of a Victorian English suburb superimposed onto an Andalucian landscape. Situated at the eastern end of Alameda Sundheim.
