Suflí

Suflí is famous for its fritá, made using tomatoes and peppers which are roasted in the traditional way before being bottled in a local factory and sold. This products is the basis of the Suflí economy. The village has around 200 inhabitants. Sfloy, Sofli and Suflí are all toponyms of Arabic origin that mean “those below”.

Francisco Alarcón - a multidisciplinary artist from Estepona

We spoke with Francisco Alarcón, a multidisciplinary artist from Estepona, who works in painting, sculpture, and mural art. Deeply inspired by the Mediterranean light and landscape of his Costa del Sol hometown, Francisco explores themes of memory, nature, and human connection. His vibrant, large-scale murals inject colour and identity into urban spaces, whilst his posters showcase Andalusian traditions. Whether working on a public wall or canvas, his art reflects a deep-rooted dialogue with place, tradition, and transformation.

La Carlota

La Carlota is named after King Carlos III, who founded the present day town in a desert area known as La Parilla in an attempt to re-populate the area. The area attracted immigrants from central Europe, a fact that can still be seen in the facial features of the local descendants of these, mainly German, founders. It has around 14, 000 inhabitants.

Algeciras - Bus station and timetables

Algeciras bus stations is located next to the railway station. It is a modern uninteresting functional design. It has ticket office open all day. facilities include shops, toilets, 'consigna' with small cary on size lockers and a cafe. There is a taxi rank outside. The local bus L1 stops outside.

Rágol

Found on the banks of the Andarax River, Rágol is surrounded by large eucalyptus trees and is famous for its grapes and raisins. It has about 315 inhabitants. The origins of the town are difficult to determine, although some 20 castles were established in the ninth century to colonize the Marchena area.

Pueblo Lopez district of Fuengirola

Pueblo Lopez is a surprisingly picturesque little residential community between El Boquetillo neighbourhood and the town centre. This neighbourhood was built in the early 1960’s by an English builder who was determined not to succumb to the increasing tendency at that time to construct high rise buildings.

Leatherwork

In the Middle Ages, the leather workers of Cordoba made the city universally famous for the high quality of their tanning and embossing techniques. Some workshops still survive which use the ancient methods, in both Cordoba and Granada, while leather goods are made all over the region (purses, wallets, belts etc.). One of Spain's best places for leather goods is Ubrique.

Serrato

Serrato as a municipal district was formed as recently as December 2014. Until then it was part of the municipal district of Ronda. It has about 470 inhabitants.Its origins of Seratto date back to the Neolithic era, when small agricultural communities settled here due to the fertile land and the abundance of water. It was in the Roman and Arab period that it grew in importance, particularly Serrato village, which was a Roman town.

Cadiz Conference Centre

The Palacio de Congresos de Cádiz is located in the historic centre, close to the train station, the port and the business district. The building is divided into three floors, and its various rooms are used for all types of events, congresses, conferences, exhibitions..

Felix

Felix is another village whose architecture gives away its Arabic past. The mass of white houses is presided over by an eleventh-century Arabic castle. Legend says that the castle is de la matanza (‘of slaughter’) because the Moriscos who fought against the Christian troops in 1568 threw themselves from the top, as they would rather die than convert to Christianity. The village has around 640 inhabitants.

Turmares

A wonderful opportunity to get close to whales and dolphins in their natural habitat in the Strait of Gibraltar. This is the area of sea where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet, in the narrow space between the southermost point of Spain, and the African continent.
