Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

'Stand up Paddleboarding', popularly called SUP, or surf a remo in Spanish, is an alternative to surfing which sees users stand on their board and propel themselves through the water using a paddle. The sport is usually performed in the calm sea or a lake as larger waves or strong winds make it challenging. It reached Tarifa in 2011 and became popular in other parts of Andalucía by 2015.

Shopping in Tarifa

Tarifa´s shopping scene is as varied as the crowd who frequent the town. Classics like the indoor fish market and touristic souvenir shops are balanced with the wave of boutiques that have begun to colonise the old town to cater for the hip surfing set. The result occasionally feels like a clash, but captures the spirit of old and new which so characterizes Tarifa.

Whale & Dolphin Watching

The waters off the coast of Andalucia are home to a large population of whales and dolphins. They are known formally as cetaceans and can be divided into two main orders: mysticeti and odontoceti, and you can see them both by joining one of the many boat expeditions offered by companies operating from various points along the Costa de la Luz, and the Costa del Sol, especially from ports of Tarifa and Gibraltar.

History of Atarfe

According to the authors Amador Díaz García and Manuel Barrios Aguilera, the name Atarfe comes from the Arabic word al-taraf, meaning 'point', which in the Granada dialect would be a- tarf. This is probably in reference to the nearby Castillejo and Tajo Colorao peaks. However, other sources suggest that it originates from the Arabic word artarf, meaning 'boundary', as the boundary of the old city of Elvira was located nearby

Very suitable for beginners and high handicappers, with its open tee and green positions, the course also offers challenges for the more experienced player. The layout, designed by Aymerich Golf Management, follows the natural contours of the land situated between two rivers and the course is bordered part way by the Galería forest with its remarkable variety of indigenous trees. The greens are large with an average area of 641m2, the smallest being 450m2, and all of them generally incorporate gentle slopes.

Imagina Funk festival, Pozo Alcón, Jaén

The best funk festival in Spain takes place each year over two or three days in late July or early August. Two top bands perform each evening and the DJs play until dawn. First started in 2008, there is a large camping area in this beautiful rural location.

History of Albolote


The town's history is intertwined with the vicissitudes experienced by the Vega de Granada region as a whole. During the Roman era, it formed part of the network of rural estates used for agricultural production in the area, and during the Muslim era it was occupied by a peasant population who cultivated mulberry trees for silk production.
