Indian Restaurants

by Meena Mistry

What many British expats miss most about living in Andalucia is a good curry.  But don’t worry – you can find plenty of Indian restaurants on the Costa del Sol. So if you need a little more heat than your Andalucian gambas pil-pil, then take a trip to one of the curry houses along Andalucia’s coast, and beyond.

Whether you are craving a meat or vegetarian dish, a rogan josh or a vindaloo, naan bread or poppadoms, or just the sweet taste of mango chutney, you’ll find a fine selection of establishments along the coastal areas of Southern Spain, for couples, families and groups alike.

With such a wide range of dishes available on the typical Indian menu, it’s best to try all the different curries to find your favourite.  And better yet are the wonderfully sweet desserts: ras malai – fluffy white cheeseballs soaked in clotted cream, gulab jambu – fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup flavoured with cardamom, rosewater and saffron, or kulfi – Indian ice cream.

Indian restaurants have truly extended their reach, not only to the Costa del Sol, but across the whole of Andalucia with a range of “Taj Mahals” and restaurants named after Indian cities.  You can choose from establishments located in Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona, Puerto de la Duquesa, and obviously Gibraltar as well as many other places.

Some of these Indian restaurants also offer the option of both eat-in or takeaway, so you can always get your fix of spice, however busy or rushed you are.

So, if you fancy a taste of India, you know there’s a restaurant not too far away to tingle your taste buds with some exotic flavours.
