Carrera Del Darro, Granada City

Now we are ready to take one of the most picturesque and romantic walks in Spain, along the Carrera del Darro, the cobble-stoned street which over hangs the river and which was once one of Granada´s main arteries, leading to the vanished gate of Guadix and, from there, to the town of that name in northeastern Andalucia. First we pass old Granada´s last remaining arched bridges.

Alboloduy

Alboloduy has housed settlements dating as far back as the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Today, its main economic activity lies in the production of grain, olives, oranges, wine, flour, olive oil and straw. The Nacimiento River runs through the town and the Barranco de los Catalanes and the Rambla de los Yesos are among its highlights.

Getting there

Just west of the Costa del Sol in Cadiz provinceand a district of San Roque municipality. Sotogrande is about one and half hours drive from Málaga Airport, on the AP-7, and one and half hours from Jerez Airport and 45 minutes from Gibraltar airport.

El Saucejo

El Saucejo, originally known as La Puebla del Saucejo, is built above the villages of La Mezquitilla and Navarredonda. It has about 4,300 inhabitants.

Natural Parks in Córdoba Province

The mountain range of the Sierra Morena occupies Cordoba province's northern flank and its gently rolling hills are home to the densely wooded natural parks of the Sierra de Hornachuelos and the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro.

History of Ohanes

The first evidence of human presence in the area dates back to the Neolithic era, in the so-called Culture of the Caves, where the Nieles and Almecena caves particularly stand out. Ceramic and imprint remains from the fifth millennium BC have been discovered. The Argar Culture and the progressive Iberian, Phoenician and Carthaginian hordes gave way to Roman domination.

Faro Airport

Like neighbouring Andalucia, the Algarve region of southern Portugal is popular for year-round holidays, thanks to its mild, sunny climate. Its centrally-situated capital, Faro, is a popular tourist destination, and its airport is the most important in the Algarve, serving the entire region. It is a modern airport with excellent facilities.

Turrillas

Turrillas is situated next to the Parque Natural de Sierra Alhamilla, one of the most beautiful protected areas in Andalucía. At the entrance to Turrillas, close to the small chapel dedicated to San Antonio, is an amazing viewpoint where visitors can soak up the striking landscapes. The town has about 240 inhabitants.

Linares

Linares, land of bullfighters and musicians, offers visitors an interesting historical and artistic heritage. An important town in the north of Jaen with a population of 65.000. Linares was heavily involved in the mining and smelting of lead and the production of gunpowder.

Ermita de San Gregorio

The Ermita de San Gregorio is located in an area known as Los Cerrillos. It is a simple, single-nave chapel where locals celebrate the Feast of San Gregorio each 9th of May.

Matalascañas

Matalascañas is a popular, modern resort, located in a beautiful area of extensive coastal dunes and sandy beaches. Despite the village's tasteless high-rise development, which is one of the worst along the Huelva stretch of the Costa de la Luz, Matalascañas has some redeeming features; namely, its beach and its proximity to the Parque Nacional de Donaña. It has about 780 inhabitants.

Summer Festivals

Horses are inextricably woven into the Andalucian culture. Most of the festivals in Andalucia involve the impressive Andalucian horses, famous for their long tumbling manes, great presence and strong paces.

Hospital de los Venerables

Located in Barrio Santa Cruz, in a pretty square with orange trees, the 17th-century baroque hospital was built to care for elderly, impoverished and infirm priests. From 2027, it will be used as a gallery for religious art, and offers a peaceful haven in this area which is often thronged with visitors.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación

The church’s construction began in 1500 on the site of a former mosque, although an inscription on its exterior façade reveals that the work continued for several years, until 1634.

Benamaurel

Situated in the north of the Granada Province, the exceptionally beautiful village of Benamaurel is in the Baza region of the Altiplano of Granada. The village sits at a height of 723 metres above sea level and covers an overall area of some 130 Km2. The municipality of Benamaurel is spread over a series of gullies, split into the village of Benamaurel and its surrounding hamlets.
