Hotel Breaks on New Year's Eve

If you're planning a busy Christmas, perhaps with family visiting, why not get away for New Year? After many days spent cooking and entertaining friends and family, take time out for yourself and have a change of scene to welcome in the brand New Year.

Many hotels, both in cities and seaside resorts, offer excellent packages for Nochevieja, as New Year's Eve is called in Spain. At this time of year, hotels pull all the stops out, with festive decorations, a party atmosphere and special entertainment.

A typical New Year's Eve offer might include a welcome glass of champagne, a four-course gala dinner with wine, the 12 grapes of course, entertainment (live band or disco) and accommodation (two nights is best - who wants to pack and check out by 12 midday with a raging hangover?). The festivities are sure to carry on into the small hours. It's a great opportunity to get dressed up and pamper yourself, be served a delicious meal, have some drinks, and not have to worry about cooking, clearing up, or how you're going to get home.

If you're staying in a city, you can always go outside and see what's happening en la calle, where the atmosphere in the central squares can get very exciting as the midnight hour approaches.

Even better, choose a hotel with a spa, and have a facial or other treatment on 31 December, before the evening's excitements kick off. Then soak away your hangover in the jacuzzi, or sweat it out in the sauna or steam bath, the next day. Then you can go home feeling refreshed and renewed, ready to start off the New Year.

Some hotels will offer late check-out, as well as a later-than-usual brunch, to help your body cope with the after-effects of the party the night before.

HOME FROM HOME

You could also rent a house or cottage in the country with a group of friends, and create your own party, complete with decorations, music and grapes. Choose a place with a fireplace, and you can have a cosy evening of food and wine, dancing and singing, games and fun. And, of course, lots of conversation. There are many thousands of rental properties all over Andalucia, from mountains, lakes and villages to beaches. Some fresh, clear country air and (hopefully) sunshine, and perhaps a relaxed walk, will brush away the cobwebs the following morning. Whatever you decide to do, we at andalucia.com wish you a very Happy New Year!
