Traditional Tapas
Casares - Restaurants
Casares has a varied choice of places to eat for a small white village. Most of them line the Carretera de Casares (MA-8300), the winding road that climbs from the coast up to the village. Along the way are traditional family-run ventas serving home-cooked Andalucian food, with terraces that look out over the valley and the Sierra Crestellina. Stop for a leisurely weekday menú del día or a long Sunday lunch. Higher up, overlooking the village itself, Restaurante Sarmiento brings Michelin-listed open-fire cooking to the hillside, and down near the coast, Kabuki Raw at Finca Cortesín offers Japanese-Andalucian fine dining. At sea level, beach restaurants along Playa Ancha serve fresh seafood and paella a few steps from the Mediterranean, and Sunset Restaurant at Casares Costa Golf is a relaxed spot for an evening meal as the sun goes down over the course. In the village, a handful of café-bars in and around the main square serve menú del día and platos combinados.

Sarmiento - Brasa Andaluza
Perched above the white village of Casares, Restaurante Sarmiento boasts sweeping vistas of the town and the surrounding countryside. The chefs embrace Andalusian culinary traditions, focusing strongly on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from nearby farms and producers. Highlights from the menu include succulent young goat's shoulder, as well as other grilled meats prepared using traditional open-fire techniques to enhance texture and flavour. Other standout dishes include:
Pulpo a la brasa con puré cremoso y aceite infusionado con pimentón ahumado (grilled octopus served with creamy mashed potatoes and smoked paprika-infused olive oil);
• Bizcocho al-Andalus con helado de pistacho: a traditional Andalusian sponge cake paired with pistachio ice cream. The rustic atmosphere is complemented by glassed-in outdoor terraces, which allow diners to enjoy postcard-perfect views while staying cosy inside. Listed in the 2025 Michelin Guide, Restaurante Sarmiento offers a dining experience that is both cosy and authentically Andalucian.
