La Torrecilla of Nigüelas
In 1985, the Torrecilla was declared a Site of Cultural Interest as a defensive structure, as it was believed to be a possible Alquería tower. However, subsequent studies have suggested that it may in fact be the minaret of the old mosque of Nigüelas. Furthermore, an archaeological investigation conducted at La Torrecilla in 2022 uncovered remains of walls dating back to the medieval period, along with burial remains that are difficult to date. Currently, La Torrecilla is in the study phase as part of a project to create an Interpretation Centre, but it is open to the public. During the visit, you can see the remains of the medieval walls, access the interior of the tower-minaret and observe its foundations, learning first-hand about its construction process. It is located on Calle Cruz.
