Castillo de Cesna

Castillo de Cesna

Turrush Castle is located on the banks of the Iznájar Reservoir, near Fuentes de Cesna. It is believed that this castle was the place where Abd al-Rahman I lived before confronting the state in Córdoba, leading him to govern the newly independent state of Al-Andalus.

Despite this, it was partially demolished by Abd al-Rahman III (the initiator of Al-Andalus’s religious independence). This castle, next to Fortín Torre Pesquera, is unique in its type of location, as it was built to block natural access routes (Pesquera River Valley).

The choice of location is explained by its strategic importance, as it is located on the Loja–Priego de Córdoba route, essential for connecting eastern Andalusia with the Guadalquivir Valley.

Located southwest of the town.
