History

The history of Laroles dates back to Roman times. The name is thought to derive from the Latin 'laurus' (meaning 'laurel'), although remains of pottery from the Argaric culture have been found in the area. Laroles reached its peak during the Muslim period. Following the Reconquista, the Moorish population was expelled, leaving behind a rich cultural and architectural heritage.

Laroles was an independent municipality until 1972, when it merged with Mairena and Picena to form the municipality of Nevada. It has been the municipal capital and seat of the town hall ever since.
