Train Station in Cartama

Train Station in Cartama

The Estación de Cártama (Cartama Station) is named after the railway station built in 1863 by the Córdoba to Málaga Railway Company. Today, it is on the C-2 Cercanías Málaga line, serving commuter services. A village grew around the station, also called Estación de Cártama. The complication is that Estación de Cártama is located on the other side of the Guadalhorce River. Between 1927 and 1931, the Iron Bridge (Puente de Hierro) was built to connect the station with Cártama Pueblo. The bridge was restored in 2001 and re-illuminated in 2006. The bridge symbolizes the connection between the old and new towns.

Double tracks and two platforms, Cártama train station is on the C-2 local line (known as Cercanías) with services every hour. It is also on the medium distance line connecting Malaga-María Zambrano and Ronda.

The C-2 line of Cercanías Málaga connects Málaga-Centro Alameda station with Álora, covering 38 km through the Guadalhorce valley. It is an important local rail service that links the city centre with Cártama, Pizarra and Álora, with trains running approximately every hour or two, operated by Renfe.
