Sierra Nevada - Ski Station News 2019/20

News for 2019/2020 season

NEW ski touring/mountaineering trail
A new ski touring/mountaineering trail in the Lomo del Dilar area starts at Pradollano, ascending Loma del Dilar, Peñon del Dilar and Poniente runs, until reaching the radio telescope.

This is in addition to the 6.2 km trail which runs from the lower station of the Virgen de la Nieves chairlift to the upper station of the Laguna chairlift, near the peak of Veleta, with 920 m of climbing.

New K12 descent
A new 12 km gentle descent route has been newly marked, running from the Laguna chair lift upper station down to the Pradollano residential area, connecting already existing runs on the southern side of the ski area.

NEW website/app features
New activities linked to the Skiline system, which skiers can manage either from the website or the app, include a selfie photo point at the exit of the Stadium chair lift. The Sierra Nevada app has new features:

•Audio-guided GPS navigator: with piste and lift information, as well as offering the best route to get to your preferred run.

•3D piste map: make a virtual visit to the resort

•GPS tracker: track your descents, visualise all your piste activity in 3D, and analyse detailed statistics (changes in altitude, speed and time taken). At the end of the day you can get a video-recreation of your routes taken on the pistes.

NEW Snowpark area
Signage has been updated, and there is a new ski/snowboardcross run between the slopestyle sector 3 and Loma del Dilar run. This will be used for the Snowboardcross World Cup on 6 and 7 March2020.

Access to ski lifts, and screens
Access to ski lifts has been improved across the resort, most notably the Monachil chair lift, with the entrance now located at the rear of the lower station, to speed up boarding of users. The main ski lifts will have screens showing the current condition of lifts and runs, useful information, security advice, and weather updates, as well as intelligent cameras with data analysis.

NEW Snow-making cannons
This season the resort has 33 latest-generation snow-making cannons (TL6 and TR10) on the 3.2km El Rio run, which connects Borreguiles with Pradollano residential area. All cannons except two are fixed, and produce the same amount of snow as the old ones in half the time, with a significant energy saving. Some older (M20) cannons will be placed in the upper areas of this zone, near the Stadium chairlift upper station, the Zayas ski lift, the Maribel run, and the Mirlo Blanco Recreational Area, while others will be removed due to low productivity.

FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup
The main sporting event of the season, this will be held on 6-7 March 2020. Sierra Nevada will host the world’s top riders, including Spanish boarders Regino Hernandez and Lucas Eguibar. This competition will be held on the new run between the slopestyle sector 3 and Loma del Dilar run.
