Casa Natal de Velazquez, Sevilla
La Casa Natal de Velaz (The Oldest House In Seville)
After serving as a private residence for centuries, this 16th century building has been used for various cultural purposes since the 1970s, establishing itself as a space linked to artistic activity. With the launch of the new foundation, the renowned Spanish artist Diego Velázquez’s birthplace is now positioned as a unique enclave where heritage, technological innovation, and cultural outreach converge.
Measuring 580 metres across two stories, it is a classic example of a corraleta, a traditional Sevillan style home, with rooms arranged around a small internal courtyard.
What makes this property so remarkable, is the preservation of the residence. Its maintained its original layout, that many architects believe could be the oldest building in the city.
The house is now being turned into a museum, where visitors are able to explore where one of the most influential painters in Western history, lived.
Opening
The house will soon be opened as a museum, and be closed for private events.
