Seville Marathon 2026

There are three road running full marathons in Andalucia each year. Malaga (Novemeber), Seville (February) and Costa del Sol in Estepona first edition in September.

Seville Marathon, the third largest in Spain, with 250 elite and an increase up to 20.000 runners taking part. the 2027 edition with all bibs sold out in a single day. the biggest in Spain is Valencia in December with 35.000 runners and Barcelona with 27.000 runners. It is traditionally held on the third Sunday in February. The Seville Marathon is known for offering one of the flattest and fastest marathon courses in Europe with just 10 meters of elevation gain, and (often) good weather. The course record is 2 hrs 3 min 27 sec set in 2024 by Ethiopian Deresa Geleta.

Seville Marathon 2026

The 41st edition of the Zurich Seville Marathon took place on February 15, 2026, welcoming a historic cap of 17,000 runners. The event drew over 200 elite athletes and thousands of international competitors targeting fast times and championship qualifying standards.

The men's race delivered an unforgettable sprint finish that came down to a photo-finish judgment at the line. Ethiopian runner Tola Shura Kitata claimed overall victory after crossing the tape simultaneously with his compatriot Abderehman Asrar Hiyrden, both stopping the clock at a world-leading time of 2:03:59. Fellow Ethiopian Bikila Dejene Hailu completed the men's podium in third place with a time of 2:04:15, while Ilias Fifa finished as the top Spanish runner in 13th place with a time of 2:08:36.

In the women's division, Finland's Alisa Vainio executed a strong negative-split performance over the final kilometers to take the victory in 2:20:39, setting a new Finnish national record in the process. Kenya's Beatrice Jepchichir took second place in 2:21:56, closely followed by Ethiopia's Mulat Tekle in third with a time of 2:22:03. Andalucian athlete Fátima Ouhaddou led the home field as the top Spanish woman, placing fifth overall in 2:24:16.

Seville Marathon 2025

The 40th anniversary edition of the Zurich Seville Marathon took place on February 23, 2025, welcoming around 14,000 runners. Humid weather conditions on race morning were noted.

The men's race highlighted a highly anticipated marathon debut by Tokyo 2020 Olympic 10,000m champion Selemon Barega of Ethiopia. Barega broke away from the lead group around the 22nd kilometer and pushed through a challenging final stretch to claim victory in 2:05:15. His compatriot Tafere Adisu took second place with a personal best of 2:06:27, while Morocco's Mohamed Reda El Aaraby rounded out the men's podium in third place at 2:06:45.

In the women's category, 22-year-old Ethiopian debutant Anchinalu Dessie Genaneh produced a controlled performance to take top honors in 2:22:17. France's Manon Trapp finished strong in second place with a time of 2:23:38—setting a new French national record in the process—while Kenya's Cynthia Kosgei completed the top three just five seconds later in 2:23:43.

Seville Marathon 2024

The Ethiopian Deresa Geleta won the 2024 Seville Marathon with a new course record of 2h 03m 27s, and his compatriot Azmera Gebru (2h22:13). 12 runners ran under 2h 08min and 24 women ran under 2h 28m, achieving up to eight national records. The Sevilla marathon is now the sixth fastest marathon race in the world and the flattest course in Europe.

Ibrahim Chakir (2h07:48) and Esther Navarrete (2h24:40) were crowned Spanish champions and received their classification for the Olympic Games in Paris.

French athlete Morhad Amdouni (2h 03:47) achieved the French record, getting closer to the European record of 2h 03m 36sec. Israeli Gashau Ayale achieved the third place in 2h 04:53 setting a new Israel national record. Italy's Yemaneberhan Crippa came 4th with 2h 06 06, Sweden's Suldan Hassan finished 10th with 2h 07:36; Chile's Carlos Martín, 18th with 2h08:04; and Macedonia's Dario Ivanovski, 20th with 2h08:26, also achieved their national records.

Phil Sesemann of the United Kingdom made a personal best of 2:08:04, scraped within six seconds of the qualifying mark of 2:08:10 for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is now third-fastest British male marathoner of all time.

In the women's category, Ethiopia's Azmera Gebru won clocking in 2h22:13. Two more Africans completed the podium with the Kenyans Josephine Chepkoech (2h22:38) and Magdalyne Masai (2h22:51). 24 runners finished under 2 hours and 28 minutes, new national records for the French athlete Meline Rollin (7th, 2h24:12) and the Argentinean Florencia Borelli (8th, 2h24:18) also new South American record.

Esther Navarrete became Spanish champion in her debut over the distance obtaining the qualifying time for the Olympic Games in Paris with a time of 2h 24:40, three minutes faster the time required by the RFEA (2h28:00).

Course

The route of the 2026 Marathon was modified slightly from previous editions.  First elite runners depart at 08.30 hrs and last group depart at 09.00 hrs.
