Nerja is a picturesque coastal resort town some 50 kilometres east of Málaga city conected by the A-7 coastal highway. It marks the eastern limit of Málaga provine's Costa del Sol. Once a sleepy fishing village, the town now has a resident population of over 25,000.

Held annually in late autumn, it is one of two major road marathons in Andalucia, alongside the Seville Marathon.
The first edition of Estepona Marathon: there will be two running in 2026. One being a full marathon, and the other, a half marathon. Named as the 'garden' of the Costa Del Sol, these marathons will go through the main streets of Estepona, going past the traditional flower pots, to along the coastline.

Outside Nueva Castella village and on the edge of the La almoraima estate is the Hotel Casa Convento La Almoraima. The woods that lead up the the historic hotel are open to the public and a car park is provided to explore the woods on a couple of marked forest paths.
