Almeria - Red Garlic Fish Stew

Cut the fish into chunks. Put the water in a pan with the salt and bring to a boil. Add the potatoes, whole tomato and dried peppers. Cook, covered, until the potatoes are almost tender. In a mortar, blender or processor purée the garlic, oil, cumin, paprika, cayenne and saffron with the cooked and skinned tomato, peppers and a few pieces of the potato.

Macharaviaya

This hill village, part of the Ruta Turistica del Sol y el Aguacate, enjoyed the height of its fortunes from the 18th century until the beginning of the 19th century. In fact, such was Macharaviaya's status that it was known as "little Madrid".

Casa del Minero

The miner’s house is a modernist art deco house built in 1906 by a wealthy mine owner from Cartagena. The facade has several balconies and decorative elements, and its interior splendor is concentrated on the walls, ceilings, doors and wrought iron staircase. Located in Plaza del Pueblo.

Jibia con Tomate

Cover bottom of a skillet with olive oil and sauté the onion with the bay leaf and peppercorns on high for a few minutes. Add the cuttlefish and then the tomato sauce after a few minutes; cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for an hour or so until the cuttlefish is very tender when pierced with a fork. Salt to taste.

Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Mayte Spínola

The Mayte Spínola Contemporary Art Museum was created in 2004 using a donation from the artists belonging to the “ProArte y Cultura” Group, whose founder and director is Mayte Spínola, with Cristóbal José Relaño Cachinero being Mayor of Marmolejo.

Grieta de Benamejí

The "Crack of Benamejí" had come one of the best known geological phenomena of Andalucia. It was not a single crack but a huge landslip which destroyed a large part of the town. Landslides on the southern slope of Benamejí escarpment had been occurring for several centuries, including a sudden slide recorded in 1739. It was in February 1963 that a particularly large movements occurred, destroying 55 homes and damaging another 50.

Mazagón Beaches

Mazagón is a town in the municipality of Palos de la Frontera. This long beach spans 5.5 kilometres next to the town of Mazagon and borders Doñana natural park. The most urban part of the beach to the west of the town and closest to the marina has all facilities including: showers, beaches, lifeguards, parking, parasols and sunbeds for hire, beach cafés and parking.

Golf News - Harrington joins field for Valderrama

Harrington has been on a strong run of form of late, with three top tens in his past five events, and he made a late decision to travel to the Andalucia region of Spain in order to build on that momentum on a golf course upon which he has enjoyed some strong results.

The Dubliner has a string of good performances at the famous venue of The 1997 Ryder Cup, including a runner-up finish in the Volvo Masters in 1999 and a top five in the 2000 WGC-American Express Championship.

History

The city of Almeria was founded in 955 by the Arabs, but there are sites that trace their origins to prehistoric times. The hill where the Alcazaba is currently was the subject of the earliest occupation in prehistoric times, likely to be during the Bronze Age.
