Ermita Virgen de la Estrella

This chapel has undergone several reconstructions over the years; it was originally built in the fourteenth century on the remains of the collapsed Castillo de la Estrella. Some parts of the original fortification have been preserved, such as the two blinded Muslim arches that formed the frontispiece, and the homage tower (now repurposed as a bell tower). The new chapel was built in 1892, and its construction was commemorated by placing some coins and an inscribed lead plate in a cavity in the façade. Located 5km from the town off the JA-7103.

Guadahortuna

In this Granada town you can see what is known as the primo pobre (poor cousin) of the Eiffel Tower, the Puente del Hacho, built at the end of the 19th century by the famous French architect of the iconic Parisian landmark. The iron bridge, which spans 625m and is 50m high, takes us back to the era when trains were the main means of transport between Andalucian towns and cities.

Casa Rosa

Casa Rosa is a pretty, candy-pink French-style villa with magnificent gardens at the far end of Parque Maria Luisa. The house was part of the vast estate of Palacio San Telmo, which was occupied in the second half of the 19th century by the Duke and Duchess of Montpensier.

History of Santa Fé

In its beginning, Santa Fé was a military camp of approximately 48ha created by the Catholic Monarchs in preparation for the final assault on the Nasrids (Arab dynasty) of the Kingdom of Granada. Out of the army camp grew an imposing town of bricks and mortar within a record time of just 80 days. The town’s structure follows the form of a cross based on two roads that intersect in the centre

Costa Tropical Destinations

Costa Tropical, being less well known than its more popular neighbour, the Costa del Sol, is no disadvantage for Granada's coastline with its subtropical climate. Its' beach resorts still retain a Spanish character and it boasts some spectacular cliffs, interspersed with secluded coves and sandy beaches, particularly in the protected coastal zone of Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Area, which it shares with Malaga province.

Lúcar

One of Lúcar’s most interesting features is the Balsa de Cela, a natural pool used by the Romans, with waters that stay at around 23 degrees Celsius all year round. The village has around 760 inhabitants. Lúcar’s name is thought to be of Latin origin, deriving from the word Lucus, which means sacred forest or jungle. According to the Book of Apeo and Population of 1571, the settlement was dedicated to foresting activities.

Picasso Museum Hotels

The choice of hotels in Malaga city is vast and varied. The Picasso Museum is in the old city centre which has undergone much renovation and restoration. Many old buildings have been brought back to their former glory, a number of which have been tastefully converted into 21st century hotels.

Cabo de Plata festival, Barbate

This successful festival has an 'all-are-going-on-a-summer-holiday' atmosphere that attracts a younger audience to the offbeat Costa de la Luz fishing town of Barbate. The 2024 edition took place a month earlier than usual, perhaps to avoid the peak holiday season for this coastal town. We are not aware of any announcements regarding the 2025 festival. The website still features information about the 2024 edition.
