Colmenar

Ermita de San José

This chapel was built in plastered masonry, with a bell tower that shares its first third of wall with the hermitage, while doubling it in height. The altar is crowned by a half-orange vault.

Golf News - Garcia ready for another special week in Valderrama

Defending champion Sergio Garcia is looking ahead to another special week in a place that he loves, as he returns to Real Club Valderrama just three weeks after becoming Europe's all-time Ryder Cup points scorer.

He is aiming for a third Andalucia Valderrama Masters title, after also winning here in 2011, but it is a week that is about more than just golf for the 2017 Masters Tournament champion, as the event is hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation for the second successive year.

Natural Parks in La Axarquía

The natural parks of La Axarquia include Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Almara, Montes de Malaga Natural Park. Another natural bueaty spot is Lake Viñuela.

Until around two decades ago the Axarquía region of Andalucía was little known. Then, northern European expatriates discovered the pretty hilltop village of Cómpeta, started buying up some of the run-down 'fincas' and farmhouses in the area and putting it on the map.

Police

The Guardia Civil wear green uniforms and are less reactionary today than they were during Franco's control. They are responsible for national security, customs and for crowd control at large events. Their traffic department patrol the main highways with cars and motorbikes and organise radar speeding checks.

The Interpretation Centre offers a journey through the history of the southeast of the peninsula, focusing on the Iberian and Roman cultures of Almeria and their main exponent in the Bajo Andarax: the archaeological site of “El Chuche”.

New Flamenco - Ketama

The marijouana buds that decorate this Madrid trio’s website give a clue as to the origin of their name; the dope-growing region of Ketama in north Africa. Wildly popular with young Spaniards, with a street cred aided by their public affection for ‘chocolate’, Ketama mix flamenco with African music, guitar pop, hip-hop and house, and their concerts frequently sell out.

Isla Cristina Beaches

Isla Cristina is one of the most popular resorts on the Costa de la Luz in Huelva and gets very busy in the summer. There are many beaches to choose from, although the main beach, Playa Central can seem overcrowded in July and August.
