Apartments

Torremolinos: where the Costa del Sol tourism boom really exploded. Just a couple of miles to the west of Malaga airport, and with one of the coast’s better urban beaches, it isn’t hard to see why. If the town’s party-hearty reputation has relaxed a little in recent years, giving way to many family holidaymakers in the summer and older visitors looking for some winter sun out of season.

Italica

Roman ruins of Italica, near Seville, with remarkable mosaics and an impressive amphitheatre, are located 9 kilometres to the north of the city, just outside the village of Santiponce. Nearby you can also see a well preserved Roman theatre. Both are signposted from the the main road.

Los Seises Sevilla (formerly Hotel Fontecruz)

This hotel is tucked away down a side-street, which means it doesn’t have the bustling ambience of those on the main drag, though it’s only a stone’s throw away. As soon as you walk in, you realise it is very much modern in style, with black and white photos of film stars on the wall, a black marble reception and fluffy white hanging lights.

Lagunas de Campillos Natural Reserve

The Lagunas de Campillos are five seasonal saltwater lakes with a protected area covering 1,126ha. Only one lake, the Laguna Salada, hardly ever dries out. Some lakes used to be permanent but have suffered from the agricultural activites in the surrounding areas that has put pressure on the water levels of the lakes. But they still provide an important resource for birds based in the area, like those at the nearby Laguna de Fuente de Piedra and the Laguna de la Ratosa.
