History

The name El Padul originates from the Latin words palus and dis, meaning 'lagoon' or 'pond'. During the Arab period, the name was transformed into Al Badul, which over time became El Padul.

Escañuela

Escañuela is formed entirely of cultivated lands, dependent on the local olive monoculture. Los Cuchillos Walk

This shortish circular route takes you round the rocky massif that lies just to the north of the Refugio de Juanar with an optional 45 minute diversion to the top of the jagged ridge of Los Cuchillos, El Picacho de Castillejos (1238m). Even though I’ve graded the walk as Easy/Medium don’t imagine that this is in any way a dull route.

Bus Service - Puerto de la Duquesa

Duquesa is on the Estepona to La Linea (for Gibraltar) bus route. Consult bus timetables on our La Linea and Estepona bus station pages. Estepona to La Linea takes one and a half hours. Duquesa is 20mins from Estepona and one hour from La Linea.

Fuente de los Cinco Caños

Also known as the 'Lavadero de San Joaquín y Santa Ana' during the first three quarters of the twentieth century, this laundry area was the social centre of the town as it was where all the women met to do their washing.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario

The bus station is located within the same building as the train station, in the Estación Intermodal. ( Intermodal station; meaning bus and train combined station). the building opened in 2005 as the first of its type in Spain. It is open from 05.00 to 24.00 hrs. Here is a plan of the station. The Chamber of Secrets is an established cabaret show-bar ran by some of Europe's top performers and the 33 euro entrance fee includes all-inclusive lager, sangria and soft drinks. Children under 14 pay 18 euros.
