In Andalucia many races are held in different sports such as horse riding, motorcycles, bicycles, rally cars or athletics. These events attract many people interested in participating and competing.

Extreme Sports

Extreme sports are defined as activities which involve a high level of danger, and therefore often both speed and height; they're also "counter-cultural", and often (though not always) practised by young people. They are frequently climate-dictated, being dependent on snow or ice, wind and water. And, of course, they're a great way of keeping in shape.

Trans Sahara, Sotogrande - Ghana

Our ferry glided into Tangier on a bright chilly Tuesday morning the 30 th January 2007 . At last we are on our way on a journey dreamed about for years and intensively planned over recent months. "We" includes my travelling buddy Alan Routledge a fellow Brit and business entrepreneur living close by in Sotogrande.

Bossaball

Bossaball is a relatively new sports game that has come to Andalucía. It is played along the beaches of Andalucía. Taking its name from the bossa nova rhythms that often accompany games, it is a spectacular ball game between two teams of three-five people, played on a court made up of trampolines and protective inflatables divided by a net.

Sports Clubs

Many days of sunshine that Andalucia averages each year makes it the perfect place to practice any number of sports, be it on the land, in the water, or in the air. There are many different clubs formed by aficionados that make it easier to practice whatever sport and network with those of like minds and interests.

Skydiving

Skydiving is a growing sport - unlike Base Jumping or Bungee Jumping, in skydiving you jump out of a aeroplane (or helicopter, or hot air balloon) and enjoy a time of free fall before you use your parachute to slow down your rate of descent to earth.

Fishing in Andalucia

The Atlantic and Mediterranean shorelines are ideal for fishing and many of the local marinas provide everything required for a day of open sea fishing. A maritime recreational fishing licence (1st and 2rd Class) is required for fishing from the shore or from a boat near the coast. It is obtainable from the offices of the Delegación Provincial de la Conserjeria de Agricultura y Pesca.

River Walking in Andalucia

In Andalucia there are many rivers where you can enjoy a pleasant walk and a relaxing swim surrounded by nature. The best time is undoubtedly summer, although it is also an option in late spring or early autumn.

Some of the most beautiful rivers to make these routes are:

- Rio Chillar near Nerja, Coast del Sol

- Angosturas near Benahavis, Costa del Sol

- Rio Genal near Jubrique, (Serrania de Ronda)

Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Mayor Dolor

Gay Scene

Torremolinos has long had a vibrant gay scene and it has always been one of the most openly gay-friendly towns in Spain. Even during the years of dictatorship, the town flourished as a destination for the liberally minded and the animated gay scene thrived at a time when Franco frowned on blatantly non-Catholic activities.

Cabildo Viejo

Cabildo Viejo is a fifteenth century building that has been used as a granary, town hall, prison and municipal government offices. The first big GLBT event of the year in Torremolinos is the Gala Drag Queen del Carnival Gay, which is held on the first weekend in March. This colorful drag queen gala, organized by the ACOGAT, gay merchants association of Torremolinos, contains all of the sequined outrageousness associated with the world of drag.

Casa Lopez

Casa Lopez, on the opposite side of the street, has been providing good old fashioned home cooking since 1996. It is another of the hidden treasures of Torremolinos, just far enough away from the main drag to be practically ignored by the tourists.
