Cruces

Since ancient times, seventeen crosses have been placed along the streets of Padul to symbolise the religious faith of its inhabitants.

Paraje Merendero Los Pinos

The Los Pinos picnic area is equipped with ready-built barbecues and stone chairs and tables in strategic areas for families and friends to get together, along with a paved area for football and basketball. The park also has a pond where various species such as ducks, geese and swans live.

Estepona Mural - 21st Century Don Quijote

Inaugurated in January 2016, Quijote en el Siglo xxi commemorates the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes. Painted by the malagueno artist, Curro Leyton, this mural measures 264 square metres and features a 16m high figure which is his modern interpretation of Don Quijote, one of the most famous characters from Spanish literature. It is located on a wall of the Puerta del Mar Institute on Calle Eslovaquia. Leyton created his updated vision of Quijote in collaboration with some of the students of the institute. 

Malaga city Bus service

The main bus and coach station is located just to the west of the centre of town, next to the Train Station. There are also coaches from here to Costa del Sol and Andalucia.

GLBT Events and festivals

The first big GLBT event of the year in Torremolinos is the Gala Drag Queen del Carnival Gay, which is held on the first weekend in March. This colorful drag queen gala, organized by the ACOGAT, gay merchants association of Torremolinos, contains all of the sequined outrageousness associated with the world of drag.

Popular festivals in Bubión are Cabalgata Reyes Magos, Chisco de San Antón, Fiestas Patronales en honor a San Sebastián y San Antón, Semana Santa, Fiestas de San Juan, Semana Cultural and Mauraca.

Puente Viejo (Old bridge)

Built in the 16th century, possibly on remnants of an earlier bridge, this was the one navigable link between Mercadillo and La Ciudad until the completion of the Puente Nuevo centuries later. Cars still need good gears and drivers with steely nerves to take the steep hairpin bend on the way up to the cuesta de Santo Domingo.

This is a Mudejar church with a single nave covered with armour, dedicated to the Virgen de las Angustias, an invocation represented as “La Piedad”, with the dead Jesus in her arms, as shown in the exterior niche of the portal. Although most of the parishes were established in 1505 within the political-religious program of conversion to the Moors, this is an initiative of Bishop Claudio Sanz y Torres, from the late eighteenth century, motivated by the population growth that made the previous hermitage too small.

Rodalquilar

Rodalquilar is a small village of about 200 inhabitants just off the Cabo de Gata coast road, AL-4200 between San José and Las Negras. It is a few kilometres inland, and it is not historic hill village but rather a mid-twentieth century mining village. It looks uninteresting from the road and is generally passed by tourists and travellers. This is a mistake. A memorial in the village poetically describes Rodalquilar.

El Dique 24 of Cáñar

It is a large containment dam on the Chico River with a fall of about 30 metres. Built from metamorphic rock masonry and located between Cañar and Soportújar, it is well worth a visit for the magnificent views of the landscape it offers.

Pangea

Pangea is the place to see and be seen in Puerto Banus. Enjoying an unbeatable location at the swanky end of Puerto Banus where the big boats are, Pangea is one of the most luxurious clubs in the port. Boasting the ultimate in luxurious decor, Pangea is a stylish South Beach-meets-the-souk nightclub with a sultry al fresco terrace.

Iglesia Nueva Nuestra Señora María de la Consolación

Also known as “Iglesis de Abajo”, this church was built from 1944 onwards. It has a longitudinal nave divided by semicircular arches into seven sections, and its flat head is covered by a vaulted rood. Its façade is sober, with a semicircular arch on the front that imitates the baroque typology in its composition.

Belmez - Alto Guadiato Mining District

The Belmez, Espiel, Pozoblanco and Peiiarroya-Pueblonuevo mining basin yields coal- rich carbonated deposits. The mining of copper pyrite and lead-rich galena also became very important.

History

The town's magnificent castle, now called Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle), dates from Roman times, although earlier Iberian ceramics have been found in its water tank. The castle was expanded by the Visigoths and then further extended by the Arabs into a fortress, after the Moors invaded in 714.

Anunciación church of Las Tres Villas

Construction of the church began at the end of the eighteenth century, according to the plan drawn up by the architect Santiago Ferro, although only the main chapel and the transept were built from it, as the nave was never built.
