The history of Nigüelas dates back to prehistoric times. The area continued to be inhabited during the Metal Age, especially the Bronze Age, as evidenced by burials and metal objects that suggest an evolving society.

Home Visits

There are a number of instances in which doctors or nurses can be sent to your home. Technically this is something that should be offered to you in times of need, however, in practice you're dealing with a public system and you would do well to know your rights and then insist on them (if necessary try "polite pleading" as it often has good results).

Estepona Mural - Isa Kitty II

Isa Kitty II - Located above a hairdressing salon on Calle Calvario this mural was privately commissioned by the owner of the salon. It was inaugurated on 13 September 2013 and was created by the artist Ana Cecilia Salinas.  It is not on the 'official' mural's route, however we include it in our listings for information.

Los Cuchillos Walk

This shortish circular route takes you round the rocky massif that lies just to the north of the Refugio de Juanar with an optional 45 minute diversion to the top of the jagged ridge of Los Cuchillos, El Picacho de Castillejos (1238m). Even though I’ve graded the walk as Easy/Medium don’t imagine that this is in any way a dull route.

Wild Flowers - Lapiedra martinezii

This pretty, small bulbous perennial is native to Spain and Morocco. It is in the daffodil family, Amarylidaceae, and is a monotypic genus, so this is the only species.

Lapiedra martinezii has a single stem which grows to around 25cm tall and is oval-shaped with channelled ridges. There are usually 2-3 leaves from each bulb, which appear after flowering. These are very distinctive. They are dull-green, linear with a rounded tip and most obvious is the silvery-white central stripe on each leaf.
