Sierra Morena

The Sierra Morena is an area of sparsely populated rolling hills that run across northern Andalucia, creating a natural barrier between Extremadura to the north and Andalucia. Few tourists venture into these wild and remote pine- and oak-clad hills, with its landscape, atmosphere and village architecture more typical of adjacent Extremadura or Castilla La Mancha than the rest of Andalucia, to which it belongs.

Alhabia

Alhabia was once a Muslim farm, and is located at the confluence of the Nacimiento and Andarax Rivers, in a fertile valley. A very unique feature of the town is its pharmacy, founded at the end of the nineteenth century (1871), as well as the monument built in honor of women who work in the pharmaceutical industry.

Alosno

Alosno is set in the heart of El Andevalo, 43km from Huelva. The district of Alosno covers an area of approximately 200,000km2 and consists of 4792 inhabitants spread between Tharsis and Alosno. It reaches up to El Cerro del Andevalo in the north, Gibraleon and Trigueros in the south, Puebla de Guzman to the west and Calañas to the east.

Cerro de los Infantes

An archaeological site inhabited since prehistoric times, with Iberian and Roman remains such as ceramics, sculptures, and ancient fortifications.

Isla Cristina

Isla Cristina was once situated on an island and is worth a visit for its marvellous choice of beaches that are sandy and extensive, stretching 8km long. There are some excellent windsurfing spots along this stretch of coast. It is also a busy port, famed for its fresh and preserved fish and one of the most important in Andalusia, if not Spain. It has about 21,300 inhabitants.

Velefique

Velefique is home to the remains of a castle built by the Moors on a hill to the east. Take a walk around the outskirts through forest paths to the Tetica de Bacares, located at 3,000m altitude. It has about 240 inhabitants.

Language schools

The pretty seaside town of Estepona, near Marbella, offers a variety of different language schools, catering for all levels from beginners to advanced. There are large schools, and some smaller privately-run schools which offer a more local and relaxed learning atmosphere.

Castillo

The castle comprises the remains of a large, almost square tower measuring approximately 12 metres on each side.

El Rompido

El Rompido is a fishing village out on a limb, 8km from the nearest town of Cartaya. It is one of the most tranquil and un-crowded spots on Huelva's Costa de la Luz. Up until now, it has managed to remain unscathed by the tourist development that has marred other resorts along Huelva's Costa de la Luz, perhaps because of its relative distance from the new A-49 Portugal-Seville motorway, compared with the more popular neighbouring coastal towns.

Cañete de las Torres

Cañete de las Torres is small but charming. Located on the Arroyo del Cañetejo, it is worth visiting for its beauty, surrounding natural environment and various historical points of interest. It has around 2900 inhabitants.
