Don Carlos hotel, Marbella

The five-star Hotel Don Carlos in Marbella is a familiar landmark on the Costa del Sol. Towering over the pine trees on the beachside of the coast road, it has been a feature in the Las Chapas district of eastern Marbella since 1969. It reopened in summer 2025, following a three-year, €50 million renovation project. The project was led by the Selenta Hospitality Group, which has owned the hotel since 2006. Selenta is a Spanish hotel owner and operator that was acquired by the Canadian company Brookfield Asset Management in 2021.
Interior designer Jaime Beriestain oversaw the redesign, drawing inspiration from local craftsmanship and the surrounding Mediterranean landscape. He used natural materials such as marble, local ceramics and raffia in soft, earthy tones to create spaces that feel both refined and welcoming. The tower bedrooms are decorated with cheerful, uplifting wallpaper featuring birds and flowers.
Don Carlos Marbella boasts 308 rooms, including 57 junior suites and a presidential penthouse suite, all offering panoramic sea and garden views. There will also be 24 private residences with exclusive pool access. Guests can look forward to a wide range of dining options across several restaurants and bars, including the Los Naranjos and Sol y Sombra restaurants, as well as two beach clubs: Nikki Beach Marbella and Lucia, which has a family atmosphere. Other highlights include a renovated spa, the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre and a kids' club with aquatic play areas.
The hotel offers 17 meeting rooms set within more than 20,000 square metres of landscaped gardens for events and conferences. The ballroom is the largest in Marbella.
The next chapter of Don Carlos Marbella, the Selenta Group's flagship project, aims to honour its heritage while providing a new experience for a new generation of five-star travellers.
