Five-star hotels in Malaga city

There are two five star hotels in Malaga city. Hotel Miramar, rated five-star Gran Luxury openend in 2016 located on the Malagueta beach seafront on the eastern side of the city. Hotel Posado del Patio located in the city centre.

Hotel Don Carlos, Marbella

The Hotel Don Carlos is a familiar, iconic hotel that can be seen towering over the pine trees from the coastal road in the Las Chapas area, 15km east of Marbella. It has a long and distinguished history since opening in 1963. It is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and is due to reopen in July 2025.

Five star Luxury Hotels

Estepona has a surprising number of Five star Luxury Hotels, both east and west of the town itself. These include the luxurious Kempinski Bahia and Villa Padierna, both a few kilometres to the east.

Gran Miramar Hotel

This is Malaga's most luxurious hotel, reopened in 2017 after a massive refurbishment with the top five-star GL rating (Gran Lujo, or Grand Luxury). Formerly known as the Palace of Miramar, it was a government office for many years, and dates from the 1920s. Now it has been returned to its original splendour.

Healthouse Las Dunas

This five-star luxury hotel offers a wellbeing programme with five meals and only 1300 calories per day, created by two-Michelin-star chef Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz restaurant. It boasts a 3000 m2 of state-of-the art spa, a beautiful outdoor pool which is heated all year around, and front line views to the Mediterranean, all in a totally private, tranquil oasis in Andalucía, yet close to the glamorous resort of Marbella.

Gran Hotel Elba Estepona and Thalasso Spa

This five-star hotel is situated in the beautiful Arena Beach resort, looking right out to sea. It is close to the lively coastal town of Estepona and just 65km from Malaga airport. The hotel has an exclusive Thalasso Spa Club, covering over 1,500m2, making it the largest Thalassotherapy spa in Andalucia, offering a choice of 60 treatments and beauty packages, including underwater shower massage.

Mett Hotel (was Iberostar Costa del Sol Hotel)

The Mett Hotel (was Iberostar Costa del Sol Hotel) is right on Estepona beach in the Costalita residential development. The hotel's AcquaPlaya Centre has two areas, both of which use water treatments at different temperatures to treat various conditions, or simply to create a relaxing environment as an antidote to stress. In the Club Acquaplaya the hydrotherapy circuit has jet sprays at different levels and whirlpools.

Hacienda del Mar (Formerly Kempinski Hotel Bahia)

The Kempinski Hotel Bahia is on the Mediterranean coast just east of Estepona and is surrounded by luxurious sub tropical gardens, complete with three lagoon type swimming pools, one of which is heated. The Kempinski Spa specializes in body and facial treatments, including various types of massage such as hot candle, (either indoors, or outdoors in the garden), physiotherapy and osteopathy, slimming, anti-stress and hydrotherapy.

Barcelo Monte Castillo Golf

This five-star hotel is situated on the Monte Castillo golf course, on the road from Jerez to Arcos de la Frontera (A382) and handily located for the airport; guests can enjoy free unlimited rounds on the 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus, which has hosted the Volvo Masters. It's also very close to the Jerez Formula One Motor Racing Circuit, used for Motorcycle Grand Prix (Moto GP) every April.

Casa Palacio Maria Luisa ( Formerly Hotel Palacio Garvey)

Small 19th-century converted palace with hip feel in the historic quarter close to bars, restaurants and shops. This intimate four-star hotel is housed in what was formerly the residence of the Garvey family, one of Jerez's great sherry dynasties of Irish origin - they started the (appropriately-named) Bodega San Patricio. The 16 generously-sized rooms are all individually decorated in contemporary style, some with wooden floors.

Eurostars Palace

This large five-star hotel has a contemporary design, with light-coloured wood and sleek, modern touches such as statement lights and chairs. A newly-built, six-storey building with distinctive exterior of perforated, rusty metal, it has stylish furniture and a feeling of space and light.

Alhambra Palace

You can easily spot this five-star hotel, with its striking, ochre-coloured crenellated walls perched on the hill, from anywhere in Granada’s old town. It is one of the closest hotels to the Alhambra, five minutes’ Book now! walk away, while the city centre is also a short distance, just down the hill (though a steep climb with shopping bags or a full stomach).

AC Palacio de Santa Paula

Part of Marriott’s AC Autograph Collection, this magnificent five-star hotel is located on the Gran Via de Colon, the main avenue of the Granada`s old quarter. With traditional patios, fountains, interior balconies and colonnades, it’s a stunning place to stay with an impressive façade and one courtyard which dates from the 14th century.

Vincci Selección Rumaykiyya Hotel

Built in the style of a traditional Alpine lodge, with a dramatic setting of snow-capped mountains, this hotel is located in the resort of Monachil at 2400m above sea level, and has direct access to ski runs – you can ski right to the door. It is the only five-star hotel in the Sierra Nevada.

Palacio del Bailio

Part of the excellent Spanish Hospes group (they also have hotels in Granada and Sevilla), known for their sensitive conversions of period buildings, excellent food and first-class spas, this was the first five-star hotel in the historic centre of Cordoba. Located near the Plaza de Colon, the hotel offers modern comfort in a historic setting.

Palacio de los Patos

A 19th-century palace with a perfect blend of historic features and contemporary décor, plus an avant-garde wing of metal and glass. This magnificent period building, which sits behind wrought-iron gates, is surrounded by its own garden complete with palm trees - an oasis in a busy city, overlooked by the Alhambra palace.

Vincci Seleccion Posada del Patio Hotel

Vincci Seleccion Posada del Patio is one of Malaga’s few five-star hotels, and has style and character. While the façade is traditional, inside Book now! the décor features flashes of strong, bright colours – the 106 rooms have yellow, pink or red bedspreads - and textured wall coverings. Suites are on higher floors (and therefore quieter): duplexes are in attic rooms with sloping rooves; others are sunnier, and some have balconies.

Hotel Gran Melia Colon

A long-standing favourite with bullfighters, the Colon was originally built for the 1929 Expo, and was recently revamped. It now boasts contemporary furniture (Philippe Stark), and a bordello-ish white, red, gold and black colour scheme. The velvet chairs and sofas in the round lobby.

Hotel EME Catedral

The EME Catedral was Seville's first designer hotel when it opened in 2008. With gold unisex loos, central patio with Arabic lattice celosia screen and 54 totally different rooms, it's in a class of its own; sophisticated but accessible. Some rooms have a view of the Giralda, while if you want to seriously splash out, the suites have private entrance, 24-hour butler and their own roof terrace with jacuzzi and/or pool.

Hotel Only YOU Sevilla (formerly Hotel Ayre)

If you’re making a visit to Seville, and then heading off by train to another Spanish city – connections to the Andalucian cities of Malaga and Cordoba are excellent, as are those with Madrid and Barcelona to the north, thanks to the regular high-speed AVE services – this is the place to stay.
