Iglesia de la Anunciación

Iglesia de la Anunciación

The 16th-century Mudejar church has a single nave and is typical of the Guadix region. The nave is covered by a polychrome coffered ceiling in excellent condition, and the wooden choir stalls are located at the foot of the church. The doorway, featuring an image of the Annunciation, is in the Renaissance style. Made of sandstone, it features a semicircular arch with a bracket at the keystone, flanked by columns with simple capitals decorated with a border of ovoids and an inscribed frieze. The spandrels display ecclesiastical coats of arms and, above the aforementioned frieze and in the centre of the doorway, there is a relief medallion of the Virgin and Child in a square, which adorns the upper part of the doorway with a border of ovoids. It is located in Plaza del Olmo.
