Visas in Gibraltar

Arriving by land from Spain: Since 15th July 2026 when Gibraltar joined the Schengen area of the EU there are no passport nor customs formalities crossing the land border from Spain.

Arriving at the airport:

If you are a British citizen

  • No visa is needed to enter Gibraltar for visits, work, or study. The maximum permitted stay in Gibraltar is 90 days within any 180-day period. Any time already spent in the Schengen Area would count towards this 90-day allowance.

If you are a Spanish (or other EU/EEA) citizen

  • No visa is required for travel — you can enter with a valid passport or national ID card.

 For other nationalities

  • Most nationalities that normally don’t need a EU Schegen visa also don’t need a visa for Gibraltar. The maximum permitted stay in Gibraltar is 90 days within any 180-day period. Any time already spent in the Schengen Area would count towards this 90-day allowance.

To find out whether or not you need a visa, you can insert your passport country of origin here https://www.gibraltarborder.gi/visa or contact +350 20051726 - email: [email protected] for precise information regarding citizens from your country.

Tourist and business visas typically cost 28 pounds and take 20 working days to expedite. To obtain a visa you must fill out an application and show your passport, proof of hotel reservation and return ticket. A visa to enter the UK does not necessarily qualify you to enter Gibraltar.
