Conil de la Frontera - Festivals

Cabalgata Reyes Magos
Throughout Andalucia (and other parts of Spain), the Three Kings procession (Epiphany) procession winds its way through the streets of towns and villages on the evening of 5 January. The processions are usually a mixture of fantasy and biblical floats, not forgetting a float carrying each of the Three Kings.
Romeria de San Sebastian
The Romeria de San Sebastian departs from El Colorado on the Sunday closest to San Sebastián, 20 January. The procession starts from the church in El Colorado and is led by the icon and patron saint of the village, which is carried on a cart along the tracks through the umbrella pine forest to a picnic area. There is a competition for the best decorated horse-drawn and tractor-drawn floats.
Carnival
The Carnival is celebrated in Conil as all towns in Cadiz and Andalucia. Traditionally held in February.
Semana Santa
Easter Week is an event that literally transforms the towns and cities of Andalusia. Processions of elaborately decorated floats with statues of Jesus and Mary, groups of pointy-headed Nazarenos (penitents) and shrill brass bands march slowly through the streets.
Festival of the Virgen del Rosario de Fátima
Taking place in El Colorado, an event of blending religious devotion with festive celebration. The festival begins at the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Fátima in El Colorado and proceeds around the picturesque umbrella pine forests nearby. Sunday nearest to May 13th. More >
Festival of San Isidro Labrador
San Isidro, the patron saint of farmers, is celebrated with a day of festivities that includes a procession, traditional music and folk dancing. Held every year on 15 May.
Spring Fair in Conil
The Conil Spring Fair is a mixture of flamenco music and traditional dance. The event includes horse parades and dressing up in traditional and modern finery, providing a true taste of the local culture. It traditionally runs from the last Wednesday in May until the following Sunday.
Ruta del Atun
The tuna fishing industry, using the ancient almadraba system, is still important here; the season is April-June and July-August. In May/June is the Ruta del Atun de Almadraba (also celebrated in surrounding towns such as Zahara de los Atunes and Barbate), when many restaurants offer special tuna dishes.
San Juan
Traditional seaside festivals of Noche de San Juan celebrated on the beach. The San Juan festival welcomes the summer solstice with bonfires, fireworks and parties.
Virgen del Carmen
Dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen, the Virgen del Carmen, the town's patron saint, a procession is held to the beach where the icon of the Virgin is carried out to sea. It's a unique blend of religious devotion and maritime celebration, including a flotilla of fishing and pleasure boats.
La Velada de Santa Ana, El Colorado
A local celebration in honour of Santa Ana, with religious ceremonies, music and dance. The celebration includes various events; games for children, live performances and local cuisine.
Summer fair in El Colorado
A lively summer celebration in mid-August with open-air concerts, flamenco shows and food stalls selling local delicacies. A time to enjoy the warm summer nights with festivities that last into the early hours of the morning.
Summer Fair in Conil
The annual feria, officially called Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes, is traditionally held in the village of Conil from the first Tuesday in September to the following Sunday.
