Casa Museo y Centro de Estudios sobre Gerald Brenan

An initiative that aims to highlight the figure of the writer Gerald Brenan, while also being used as a cultural attraction for visitors. Yegen preserves an old inn where Gerald Brenan stayed before renting the house, which would later be known as ‘Casa del Inglés’. This inn has been the subject of a project for its rehabilitation and opening to the public as a House-Museum and Study Centre on the famous British writer, author of ‘South of Granada’. The intention of the Alpujarra de la Sierra Council was to rescue the figure of Brenan, who has been almost forgotten, and use it as a cultural reference for travellers and scholars of the work of ‘Don Geraldo’. Until recently only a plaque on the house where Brenan lived in Yegen during the 1920s commemorates his time in this region of the Alpujarra. The Council also created a living itinerary that provides a broad view of the Hispanic scholar, as well as the town of Yegen itself. This itinerary included Manuel Juliana’s house and the old inn where Brenan stayed before renting the house where he lived during his years there and where he accumulated the memories that he would later capture in ‘Al sur de Granada’. Located on the A-4130.
